In the BU assessment policy a two-stage exam counts as 1 element of assessment. Two-stage exams are an innovative and robust way to assess large groups and can be used in a lecture theatre setting. They use a combination of individual and group responses and there is no prescribed balance of marks. The University of British Columbia has produced videos of the two-stage exams in progress. There have been many papers written about their use.
